Forget Tennis-Core: Serena’s Latest Red-Carpet Look Channels Full Ballet Elegance

“While tennis-core has been a hot style trend making waves this summer, another stylistic genre has captured the attention of real-life tennis champion Serena Williams.”

For the Tribeca Festival premiere of her new ESPN series, In the Arena: Serena Williams, the athlete showed up in a head-to-toe Dolce & Gabbana ensemble that put a sophisticated twist on ballet-core.

Her uniquely crafted look included a child pink strapless silk girdle with uncovered boning layered on a blush chiffon halterneck dress. The tutu-esque skirt included a transparent texture over a hip-high leg cut, as well as a hemline that hit simply over her knees. Williams finished her look with additional pink components, including stage silk shoes and a modern grasp pack.

At the Tribeca Festival, Williams debuted the first two episodes of her ESPN docuseries, which was first announced in May 2023.

At the time, ESPN released a brief synopsis of the show:

“Several of Serena’s most significant Grand Slam tournaments and defining personal milestones are examined and decoded in detail. The series juxtaposes Serena’s spectacular on-court achievements and cultural impact with dramatic personal challenges. Through it all, Serena fights to maintain her place atop the tennis world while juggling the transformational experience of starting a family.

“Her career comes full circle as she welcomes a new generation of challengers—each inspired by Serena and hungry to follow in her footsteps, and of course, take her down. Spanning the life and legend of the greatest player of all time, we’ll track Serena’s personal and generational journey from phenom to icon—reexamining decisive matches, formative moments, heartbreak, and glory along the way.”
